About

Established in 2009, SportzVillage is India’s leading youth sports platform providing integrated sports management services to schools, corporates, and leagues. It caters to 400,000+ children across these schools through its base of 1,400+ sports & fitness trainers. Through its Academies division the company aims at providing more specialized training targeting specific sports outside of school curriculum. The company operates close to 100 such programs at venues across India and the Middle East. SportzVillage leverages its network across the sports ecosystem and its national execution capability to provide services to corporates and sports leagues through its XP division. Some of the key clients in this segment include IMG Reliance, Pro Badminton League, Pro Volleyball League, Nike, Nestle, Mattel, Axis Bank and Skoda. Company’s flagship property, Mumbai Games – a city level, franchise based, multi-sport event across age groups – concluded its second edition in early 2020 with close to 11,000 participants.

Potential

Sports & fitness is at cusp of high-growth in India driven by a combination of cultural and market forces. From hardly any timed distance running events a decade ago, India today has over a million registered runners over 1,250+ timed events in the country. Similarly, since the launch of the first professional league (cricket) in 2007, the country now has over fifteen such broadcasted leagues across various sports with new leagues being added every year. There is an increasing propensity of Indian parents to spend on their children to improve their fitness and sporting skills. India’s improving performance at international sporting events coupled with increasing options with professional leagues are lending credibility to sports as a career option. Sports & fitness is entering a phase similar to that experienced by education test-prep industry over the last two decades which has witnessed it grow to a multi-billion $ market. Globally, youth sports (participants less than 18 years old) is a significantly scaled up business. In US alone, spend on youth sports which spans the entire spectrum from private coaching to sports tours to grassroot leagues is more than US$ 15 billion. In India too, there are green shoots visible and youth sports is at an inflexion point with rising interest from private players as well as the public sector.
